I am writing to introduce myself. My name is Carrie Hinson and I will be
completing my teaching internship with Zandra Henderson at Wiley Elementary School this semester. During this time I will be performing my state-mandated student teaching experience as part of a collaborate effort between NC State University and Wake County Public School Systems. I have been in the classroom observing and learning from Sra. Henderson all year, and I am excited to start taking on the full responsibilities of teaching. I will begin teaching full time for 5 weeks starting Monday, February 23. During this time I will assume all the responsibilities as a full-time teacher including; lesson planning, implementing learning activities, all classroom teaching, parent contact, conferences, discipline and grading. Sra. Henderson will always be available throughout my experience and will assist me in all areas aforementioned. I’m excited about this final step in my journey to teach. My main focus is to give students the tools and guidance they need to attain content mastery and reach their educational goals. Optimistically, I can help instill an appreciation for Spanish in students and its real-world applications. Sra. Henderson and I will be working with the students to create presentations that showcase what they have been learning this year so far. The dates and times for the presentations are below. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any comments, questions, or concerns. I am excited to have the privilege to teach your child! In the last few weeks, the students have been working really hard. They learned about classroom items. We also took an imaginative adventure trip to the Spanish speaking countries and this week we are working on the seasons, weather, days, and months. Continuing Spanish I and II students identified where countries were located. They also colored flags and studied the capitals of many Spanish countries. The students also made booklets using the vocabulary they learned. At the end of the quarter, students will bring their work home. Please take some time to ask your child about what they learned in Spanish class. Continuing Spanish II students have turned in a wonderful project. These students made a passport and went on a pretend visit to the countries of their interest. Beginning 3-5 did a research project about South American countries. At the end of the week, each child had the opportunity to share their final project. With this project, we reviewed capitals, names of countries, money, location and much more. I am also very impressed with the work that students in this elective have done with their cut-out people at home. Many students have also turned in a report about what they learned on their country (cut-out people). Excelente! In Intermediate elective, the students and I decided to research many facts about my home country, Colombia. They learned the capital, money, president, rivers, and many other facts about Colombia. They also made a small video clip on what they learned. Soon, it will be available on our website. This week, students in this elective are learning vocabulary that will allow them to forecast the weather in Spanish. Our South American cookies turned out very good. The students in Advanced Spanish learned a great amount of information about South America. All of the students in this class were encouraged to do research on South America. The research was based on South America, Las Pampas, the Amazon River, La cordillera de los Andes and the capital of each Spanish speaking country in this continent. Advanced students are also learning to do a forecast in Spanish using more challenging vocabulary. The project was a great success. While decorating the cookie, the students presented their facts on South America. It facilitated the understanding of the facts, plus the teacher clarification. Thank you to the parents that made donations for the projects. Also big thanks to Maddie’s mom and Adeline’s mom for helping us with the baking. Next week, we are going to be learning about clothing. Beginners will focus on learning vocabulary and questions/answers. Intermediate and advanced students will work on conjugating the verb to wear “llevar.” Intermediate students will focus on Yo, El y Ella (I, he and she). Meanwhile, advanced students will conjugate using singular and plural pronouns. Both classes will be exposed to challenging activities according to their levels. Next week, all of the students are encouraged to wear fall colors (orange, yellow, brown, red or green). Also, I would appreciate if you send one of two pieces of used clothing; pants, dresses, blouses, socks, etc… or accessories such as belt, necklaces, earrings, etc... Please write names on it; I will be sending it back at the end of the week. Once again, thank you for helping us to make this program a big success. News in Spanish
October is here and we are very excited learning many things in Spanish elective. This week we will be learning and improving our classroom vocabulary. Students will practice and learn vocabulary words about items in the classroom and around the school. They also will participate in small conversations about school. Art will be used to enhance the learning of the Spanish vocabulary. The students will sing a song about the classroom. To celebrate the Hispanic Heritage month; the students in Spanish elective will work on homemade project. I like to invite parents and students to work together completing this assignment. Continuing II to Intermediate students will select a country in class. Then, I will give each student a cut-out of a lady and a man.
